Animal Health Technical Field Specialist – MGK

MGK’s mission is to make life healthier by creating responsible products that protect people and their environments from insects.  This company has successfully introduced such products into a wide variety of markets including indoor/outdoor consumer products, specialty agriculture, professional pest control, small and large animal health, and disease vector control.

General Description:

The Technical Field Specialist provides technical support for MGK’s branded business unit with a primary focus on animal health markets (poultry and diary) and a secondary focus on professional pest control. This position will also provide support to MGK sales representatives, livestock and poultry producers, distributors and professional pest control companies.  The Animal Health Technical Field Specialist will report to Chris Swain, Technical Services Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to technical phone calls from livestock and poultry producers, distributors and professional pest control companies.
  • Troubleshoot field product failures and provide analytical support for investigations and communications related to MGK’s branded product complaints.
  • Coordinate and conduct field studies primarily with livestock and poultry producers, and secondarily with pest management companies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assemble and analyze data.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Coordinator and Sales Representatives to support the technical needs of animal health producers, distributors and professional pest control companies.
  • Support MGK Continuous Improvement efforts by participating in the technical services committee meetings and assignments.
  • Achieve assigned annual goals and objectives
  • Manage expenses within the assigned budget
  • Maintain and manage the assigned MGK company vehicle
  • Attend and participate in regional and national sales meetings
  • Create internal and external presentations that comply with the MGK Brand Standards
  • 50-60% travel

A strong candidate will possess the following: 

  • Master of Science in Entomology, Animal Science or other related disciplines.
  • Background in animal health (ideally in poultry or dairy industries) with an emphasis on field experience.
  • 3-5 years of industry experience.
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Experience with product labels, product use recommendations, active ingredients and application knowledge for pest control in the animal health industry.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to livestock and poultry producers and pest management companies.
  • Good analytical, communication, interpersonal and technical writing skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.

FIRST COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION GENERAL MANAGER

First Cooperative Association (FCA), headquartered in Cherokee, IA is a 20-location cooperative servicing members and customers in northwest Iowa.   It was formed initially in 1997 from the merger of four cooperatives.  It has grown steadily since then with the most recent addition of Farmers Cooperative Company of Paullina and Farmers Elevator Company of Kingsley in the past years.  Services include grain, agronomy, feed, and fuel with 200 full-time and 70 part-time employees.

FY17 sales were $430M with $2.9M local earnings and $8.5 total earnings with patronage.  The grain business (75% of revenue) drives the company.  FCA is profitable on a local level with a strong balance sheet.

Prior Experience Desired

  • The candidate will have successful agricultural industry experience. The candidate must have a strong track record of success with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability in his/her career.
  • Previous GM/CEO experience is ideal, but not required.
  • A cooperative background is preferred but not required.  However, non-coop candidates must express some knowledge of the cooperative system
  • The candidate must have a strong grain background in a multiple location company.   This includes origination, marketing, risk management, and operations.
  • An agronomy background would also be preferred but not required.
  • The candidate must have supervisory experience, with demonstrated success in identifying, coaching, and developing talent in the organization, ideally at a senior level.
  • The candidate must have driven the annual and capital budgeting process for his/her company and/or division.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in alliances, partnerships, and mergers.

AGRONOMY DEPARTMENT MANAGER – Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc.

Become part of the senior management team of a long-standing, progressive independent ag retailer in southeast Iowa.    Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc. (Stutsman) of Hills, IA is hiring an Agronomy Department Manager to lead and oversee its agronomy retail locations and contribute to its wholesale fertilizer business.   The Agronomy Department Manager will have P&L responsibilities for seven retail locations as well as chemical and fertilizer procurement.   The Agronomy Sales Manager, Agronomy Operations/Logistics Manager, and Seed Manager will report to this position.

The successful candidate will have managed multiple retail locations with operations oversight.   Fertilizer and chemical procurement experience is needed; sales experience would be desirable.   The candidate must have a working level of agronomic knowledge but need not be a CCA.    The candidate will have staff management experience.   Prior involvement in the Fluid Fertilizer Foundation or other fertilizer industry organization would be ideal.
