GENERAL MANAGER – WESTERN CONSOLIDATED COOPERATIVE

Western Consolidated Cooperative (West-Con), based in Holloway, MN, is an established, progressive seven-location location cooperative with FY18 sales of $192M west central Minnesota and east central South Dakota.   It seeks to hire a General Manager to oversee all aspects of its grain, retail agronomy, wholesale fertilizer, and energy businesses.   Established in 1983 from the merger of three cooperatives, West-Con has 90 full-time employees and 8 part-time employees driving the grain, agronomy, and energy departments.   West-Con is supported by CoBank as its lender and participates in the ABC retirement program. 

            The General Manager will report to a nine-member Board of Directors and will be responsible for the administration, implementation, and control of all planning and operational aspects of the business. He/she will provide management leadership in the planning and determination of business strategies, policies and programs.  The person will also be responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of operations through its senior management team.

            The ideal candidate will have successful managerial experience in the ag industry with P&L accountability. However, the greatest emphasis will be placed on evaluating individual situations regarding job complexity, P&L and balance sheet accountability, and results/success.

            The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the ag retail business, ideally in a cooperative environment, however, cooperative experience is not mandatory.  Risk management knowledge and experience in grain marketing and/or fertilizer markets is highly desired, as is previous experience negotiating with railroads. The candidate must have previous employee leadership/supervisory experience.  The candidate must have experience driving an annual and/or capital budgeting process, as well as successful implementation.   Excellent interpersonal communication skills are absolutely required for this position.
