Osage Co-op Elevator (OCE), an established, successful and consistently profitable single location cooperative with $82M in sales located in Osage in north central Iowa, is seeking a General Manager to oversee all aspects of its ag retail business. Established in 1945, OCE has 35 full-time employees and 8 part-time employees driving the grain, agronomy, feed, and energy departments. OCE is supported by CoBank as its lender and is part of the ABC retirement program.
The General Manager will report to a seven-member Board of Directors and will be responsible for the administration, implementation, and control of all planning and operational aspects of the business. He/she will provide management leadership in the planning and determination of business strategies, policies and programs. The person will also be responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of operations through four direct reports.
The ideal candidate will have successful managerial experience in the ag industry with P&L accountability. However, the greatest emphasis will be placed on evaluating individual situations regarding job complexity, P&L and balance sheet accountability, and results/success.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the ag retail business (independent or cooperative). Risk management knowledge and experience in grain marketing and/or grain/agronomy operations would be desirable. The candidate must have previous employee leadership/supervisory experience. The candidate must have experience driving an annual and/or capital budgeting process, as well as implementation. Finally, excellent interpersonal communication skills are absolutely required for this position.
