Farmers Elevator and Exchange, Inc. (FEE), an established, successful and consistently profitable ag retail business with $25M in sales located in Wapello in southeast Iowa, is seeking a General Manager to oversee all aspects of its ag retail business and farm store. Even though not a cooperative, FEE is supported by CoBank as its lender and is part of the UBG retirement program. Additionally, the position has a base salary commensurate with experience with bonus program plus an exceptional benefit program.
The General Manager will report to a seven-member Board of Directors and will be responsible for the administration, implementation, and control of all planning and operational aspects of the business. He/she will provide management leadership in the planning and determination of business strategies, policies and programs. The person will also be responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of operations through seven direct reports.
The ideal candidate will have successful managerial experience in the ag industry with P&L accountability. However, the greatest emphasis will be placed on evaluating individual situations regarding job complexity, P&L and balance sheet accountability, and results/success.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the ag retail business (independent or cooperative). Risk management knowledge and experience in grain marketing, agronomy, and/or energy would be desirable. The candidate must have previous employee leadership/supervisory experience. The candidate must have experience driving an annual and/or capital budgeting process, as well as implementation. Finally, excellent interpersonal communication skills are absolutely required for this position.
