The General Manager will report to a nine-member Board of Directors (plus two Advisors) and will be responsible for the administration, implementation, and control of all planning and operational aspects of the business. She/he will provide management leadership in the planning and determination of business strategies, policies, and programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Meadowland Farmers Cooperative, Lamberton, Minnesota; a successful, financially solid, fifteen-location company with sales consistently around $475M is hiring a new General Manager due to retirement. Located in an exceptional agricultural area with a deeply loyal customer base, the cooperative is 171 years old. Meadowland has about 175 full-time employees driving the grain, agronomy, feed, and energy departments. Meadowland is known for offering the highest quality customer service to support their members. The coop is supported by CoBank as its lender.
The General Manager will report to a nine-member Board of Directors (plus two Advisors) and will be responsible for the administration, implementation, and control of all planning and operational aspects of the business. She/he will provide management leadership in the planning and determination of business strategies, policies, and programs.
The ideal candidate will have proven, executive level experience in financial management, P&L accountability, and sustainable profitability while maintaining a positive culture for employees and members. The greatest emphasis will be placed on evaluating individual situations regarding job complexity, P&L, and balance sheet accountability, and results/success.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of and passion for the ag retail business. Experience in the cooperative system is strongly preferred. Risk management, agronomy, grain, and rail knowledge and experience in ag retail is desirable. The ideal candidate will have extensive previous employee leadership/supervisory experience and a successful track record of building teams. The candidate must have experience driving an annual and/or capital budgeting process, as well as implementation. Finally, excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills are required for this position.
