The General Manager (GM) will report to a thirteen-member Board of Directors and will be responsible for directing, promoting, and coordinating the operations of Key Cooperative in a manner that will optimize Key Cooperative’s market share and profits, improve efficiency, and help achieve Key Cooperative’s mission and goals. The GM oversees the aggressive and successful growth of Key Cooperative through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style, guided by the objectives of Key Cooperative. The GM provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that Key Cooperative has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. To achieve the above objectives, the General Manager needs to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities personally or through subordinate managers.
JOB DESCRIPTION

​Key Cooperative (Key Coop), Roland, IA; a successful, progressive, farmer-owned agricultural business with sales of $650M is hiring a new General Manager due to retirement. Since 1918, Key Coop has built a legacy of superior service for its loyal customer base, serving thirteen different locations across Central Iowa and serving almost 2,000 Class A customers along with Class B customers. Key Coop has 215 full-time employees and 45 part-time employees driving the agronomy and precision ag, energy, feed, and grain divisions. Key Coop is supported by CoBank as its lender and is part of the UBG retirement plan.

Leads team to achieve goals and objectives set for the organization's revenue growth, overall profitability, and financial performance.

Leadership/Culture

Provide day-to-day leadership and management to Key Cooperative that upholds Key Cooperative's Identity Statement, which encompasses the vision, mission, core values, and culture of Key Cooperative.

Oversee and direct the leadership team; provide training, mentoring, accountability, and motivation to individuals on their team.

Ensure reviews are completed for each employee; reviews are accurate, consistent, and effectively communicate employee standing within the organization.

Strategy:

Establish current and long-range goals, strategies, objectives, plans, and policies, subject to approval by the Board.

Plan and direct all investigations and negotiations pertaining to mergers, joint ventures, the acquisition of businesses, or the sale of major assets with approval of the Board of Directors.

Advise the Board of Directors of business opportunities or special projects; seek new opportunities and ventures that will bring members and customers additional benefits while enhancing the performance and profitability of Key Cooperative.​​

Financial Stability

Oversee the adequacy and soundness of the organization's financial structure.

Responsible for preparing and submitting an annual operating plan and budget to the Board.

Negotiate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with Key Cooperative’s financial lenders, which includes securing short and long-term financing for Key Cooperative.

Represent the organization with major customers, shareholders, business partners, the financial community, and the public.

Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the objectives of Key Cooperative.

Review operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives, and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.

Dispense advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans, standards, and procedures, consistent with established policies and Board approval.

Assist in the development of operating and governance policies for Key Cooperative.

This job directly supervises 10 executive-level employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Education and/or Experience: B.S. or B.A. Degree in Business, Management, Finance, or a closely related discipline preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience in managing a significant business unit required.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
